Project: Animal Assisted Intervention, Oban
Working in partnership with a local animal rehoming project – Argyll Animal Aid – O.A.S.I.S will reach out to 192 young people aged 11-19, who either have a history of alcohol misuse or be considered at risk of doing so, owing to either issues of poor mental health and/or parental alcohol and drug misuse. Many of the beneficiaries have been excluded from mainstream education, are care-experienced, and/or have spent time in prison or secure accommodation.
Young people will help Argyll Animal Aid to help train rescue dogs to be placed in new homes, young people will demonstrate improvements in confidence, self-esteem, reduced offending, attendance to school, college or employment, family relationships, mental & physical wellbeing and a reduction in alcohol usage. They will also gain skills in the training and care of animals.
