SWA welcomes announcement on reopening of tourism and hospitality in Scotland

Commenting on the First Minister’s announcement that the Scottish hospitality and tourism sectors can re-open outdoors from 6th July and indoors from 15th July, Chief Executive of the SWA Karen Betts said:

“The Scotch Whisky industry is delighted that the First Minister has announced the reopening of hospitality and tourism in Scotland.  Scots will be able to come together and socialise safely again, and Scotland’s tourist industry, including distillery visitor centres, can firm up plans for welcoming visitors back.  This is reassuring news for everyone who works in the sector, too.

“Our industry is working to support the restart, sharing advice and experience, particularly within local communities.  The SWA is about to launch a mentoring gateway to support local hospitality businesses and share best practice to help them to re-open.

“It’s important too that communities across Scotland are reassured that the return of tourists will not threaten the progress we have made in supressing coronavirus, so that together we can welcome them with our famous Scottish hospitality once again.”
