Scotch Whisky Association welcomes pledge for duty system review

Commenting on the Liberal Democrat manifesto commitment to review UK excise structures, SWA Chief Executive Karen Betts said:

“Momentum is building towards fundamental reform of the UK’s outdated alcohol taxation system.

“We welcome this commitment. A simplified alcohol duty regime which removes the competitive disadvantage faced by UK spirits producers, led by Scotch Whisky, will increase competitiveness and continue to deliver billions of pounds in revenue to support public services.

“We continue to encourage all political parties and candidates standing in the General Election to support the Scotch Whisky industry and ensure we have an alcohol tax system that is fit for purpose in today’s economy and society.”
